A robust tropical wave located to the east of the Lesser Antilles continues to show signs of organization Monday morning as it moves toward the west.
"Satellite imagery this morning is showing a much better defined system than even yesterday," said Storm Team 2 Meteorologist Josh Marthers. "It wouldn't surprise me if we have a tropical depression or maybe even a tropical storm by this afternoon."
Based off of the latest forecasts, the system could impact the Lesser Antilles within the next 48 hours and would then begin to move in a more northwestward direction by mid-week.
"The computer models are generally showing a motion toward the Bahamas or south Florida by the end of the week but we have to be skeptical of these solutions right now," added Marthers. "The models typically don't perform to their best until a circulation center forms and upper air data from hurricane hunter aircraft is fed into them."
If the disturbance gains a name, it will be the fifth named storm of the season, Emily.
