James Sanders escaped from the Berkeley County Jail back on January 26th. Now Sanders, his escape and all its twists and turns, will soon be getting national attention.
Shortly after his escape James Sanders was spotted in downtown Charleston, walking the halls at MUSC. It is one reason why the popular show, America's Most Wanted, wanted to take on this case; he is both brazen and convincing.
On two separate occasions James Sanders is spotted on surveillance camera. He is seen walking halls at the Medical University Hospital. Investigators say he spoke with an acquaintance there and then for a second time, vanished.
The first time was when he strolled out of the detention center in Moncks corner, while being held on a domestic violence charge. AMW producer Jocelyn Sigue says there is plenty intrigue with the Sanders case.
“I was in touch with the US Marshall’s here and was just asking them what they were and they mentioned this guy James sanders. At first I wasn't sure if we were going to cover it or peruse it. But then we heard about how he convinced this woman to drive him 45-minutes into Charleston. I spoke to both of these witnesses- I spoke to the witness as MUSC and she told me how he convinced her to buy him meals give him gas money.”
Because of his story, producers are now in the lowcounty getting interviews and video for the show. And while the twists and turns of this story may make for good television, it also shows that he is willing take risks, a bad attribute, for an alleged violent offender. Sigue says the show is about both finding the right story and at the same time warning audience.
“He is just this interesting character you know that he is able to convince all these people to help him. The message we want to get out there to people that you know he is a very cunning very wily character. And it is good to let people out there know that these people exist.” The show will air on the Lifetime network sometime in March.
