“He is one of the best people I’ve seen in the crew in years” that’s how the members of Hipnotik BodyRoc and the DoA dance crews remembers Chris Hale aka Bboy Loco.
The 21 year-old was diagnosed with leukemia about a year ago. According to Jeffrey Davis, member of the Hipnotik BodyRoc dance crew, “about three months ago he went back into the hospital for a routine procedure,” he said. “Somewhere along the lines it all just headed south after that.”
Thursday night dance crews from different Charleston communities came together at Marion Square, in the heart of downtown Charleston, to pray and do what Bboy Loco loved to do, dance. “We loved to dance and we all danced together so we just decided to come together and do what he loved doing,” Davis added.
No matter what happens, the different dance crews represented all say they are going to come together to not only help Bboy Loco but to bring awareness to the bigger issue, cancer. “We are committed to fighting cancer helping cancer survivors and cancer fighters,” one dancer said. “We hope the presence we have here tonight helps enforce the fact that you never really see the real issue until it hits your front door,” he added.
The DoA crew will be having a fundraiser coming up in the near future. All of the money raised at the event will go to Chris’ family. “We going to be behind him all the way and that’s why we are going to this for him and his family. We want to stay true to what we’ve always stood for, life, prosperity, and good will," a DoA crew member added.
