Tuesday night the peace and quiet on Wakendaw Blvd. was interrupted by a massive police presence which included crews in haz-mat suits. One resident had to be taken out of the home on a stretcher. The commotion was because of a suspected meth lab inside a home.
The three suspects police say are responsible are: Lauren Pender, Daniel Johnston and Heidi Dawley. The trio faced a magistrate judge Wednesday morning.
Johnston and Dawley had the more serious charges of exposing Dawley's two children inside the home to methamphetamine. They received a $100,000 bond for the alleged crimes.
Police say, based on a tip on February 9, Dawley knowingly allowed Daniel Johnston to cook meth inside the home at 746 Walkendaw Blvd. Police did later confirm there were elements of a lab inside. A very unfamiliar scene for those living nearby— And with little information, neighbors, who didn’t want to be identified by name, could only watch and wonder. "I had asked another policeman they weren't just really giving much information except that there was a chemical spill or something and they told everyone they needed to stay in their house at that point."
Another neighbor said officers knocked on doors to get the word out to stay inside. "Stay in the house you can't leave there is a chemical problem a couple blocks down the way just no one leave the house and you are not going to leave the neighborhood."
Wednesday, Mount Pleasant police did not want to comment on camera, only sending out a statement on the bust. They tells us the investigation is ongoing.
At this time there is no word on the condition of the person taken out of the home on the stretcher. Police say the kids in home were also taken to the hospital for evaluation DSS, was then given custody.
