The CARES Clinic is a free medical clinic in Mt. Pleasant that serves the uninsured population of the low country. The clinic is entirely run by the students of the Medical University of South Carolina.
The primary purposes of the clinic are to serve in a primary care capacity for the uninsured and as a teaching tool for future health care providers. The clinic interviews patients, prescibe medications, and give advice to patients.
In addition, the clinic offers specialty nights and services such as Gynecology night, Psychiatry Night, a free physical and occupational therapy clinic, diabetes counseling, and nutrition counseling to patients. They also work hard to find outside specialists to help patients, when necessary. If you would like to learn more about our services, visit the clinics website.
As a non-profit organization, CARES is entirely dependent on grants, donations, and fundraising to maintain our services.
On February 13th and 14th from 11:00am-9:00pm, King Street Grille in Downtown Charleston has agreed to donate 10% of their profits to the clinic. But in order to receive the donation, patrons must show they're supporting CARES! Print out the flyer to the right and take it to King Street Grille to help the Clinic!
Then, on February 15th, CARES will host a fundraising event at Triangle Bar and Grill in West Ashley. That night, from 5:00pm-7:00pm, all BAR tips will be donated directly to the clinic. This does not include tips from people the restaurant.
