»  Comments | Post a Comment

Officials are removing the three vehicles found submerged in Rantowle Creek late Monday afternoon.

Lt. Jack Scarborough with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office Dive Team says they were called at around 3pm Monday when a boater in Rantowles Creek discovered a submerged vehicle.

Divers entered the water to inspect the vehicle and discovered that there were actually two cars submerged in the creek near Highway 17.

He estimates that they have been underwater for 5-10 years. Officials have shutdown the right lane of Highway 17 South for safety reasons as the vehicles are lifted from the water below to flat-bed tow trucks.

Dive teams have been on scene preparing to move the vehicles since around 7am Tuesday morning.

One of the vehicles has already been removed, and crews are working to remove the second car. Scarborough says the second vehicle is in much worse shape, and may break apart when they attempt to move it.
