A mom and her two children were injured in a North Charleston apartment fire Friday morning.
Neighbors helped rescue the woman's family as flames rip through the complex. "There were flames coming out, black smoke coming out. She had the baby in her hands. I ran over there and I told her to drop the baby. She dropped the baby in my hands. I caught the baby and passed it on to one of my neighbors," said Reginald Curry.
The woman and her two children injured in the fire were transported to the hospital for burns. At the scene, some of the neighbors spoke with News 2 about their experience as the flames took over.
"Someone kicked on my door and said fire, and I saw the young lady and her children, they were kind of burnt and it was just a lot of black smoke and everything," said Antoinette Laws, a neighbor.
The call came in just before noon that one of the apartment buildings at the Noisette Creek Apartment complex was fully engulfed. "Unfortunately fire consumes a lot and it spreads very quickly. The neighbors called 911 quick and we got here as quickly as possible to try to bring it under control, but it was pretty intense," Said North Charleston Battalion Fire Chief, Eric Phillips.
Davitta Wright, a woman who lives in the next unit over from today's fire said that fire officials told her everything in her unit is lost from smoke and water damage. Wright also said the firefighters told her much of the investigation is centered on the stove area.
The entire fire took about twenty minutes to put out with crews from Charleston, North Charleston, and St. Andrews working together.
