The Charleston County Coroner has identified the body found in a room at the Evergreeen Motel Wednesday as 47-year-old Theresa Frangos from the Charleston area. The coroner tells us they do not have a cause of death.
On Wednesday at about 10:40am, the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Evergreen Motel at 1909 Savannah Hwy in Charleston, in reference to a body found.
Cars slowed down in front of the Savannah Highway motel as investigators try to determine what happened.
Sheriff Al Cannon tells News 2, “We received a call from the motel here that a cleaning crew found the body of a white female in one of the rooms.”
One woman, Charlie McGrath-Wilkins stopped by to see what’s going on. When she heard that a woman’s body was found in a motel room, she broke out in tears. Her 20 year old daughter was found dead in a motel room on Savannah Highway a few years ago. She was upset thinking about how the family of this woman will soon be notified, “They’re gonna get a knock at the door with a police officer and the coroner…That’s gonna come see them.”
An autopsy is being performed.
The sheriff says this is being treated as a suspicious death. When we asked Cannon whether or not the sheriff’s office had been called out to the Evergreen Motel in the past, he said, “We have over the years. Most of it has been relatively minor. There was a homicide many years ago of a taxi driver.”
Cannon says the taxi driver was not found in the motel, but rather in a vehicle outside the motel.
