17-year-old, Chevonne Younginer, is facing charges after she's allegedly seen on video stuffing cotton in her baby's mouth at the Children's hospital at MUSC.
News 2 tried speaking with her father Wednesday night.
"I hadn't seen no video, I don't know nothing about a video, all they say is they got a video," he said. Further he said we could speak to his attorney in court, for now he says it's their word against the hospital.
The hospital said on February 3rd around noon, the 17-year-old was video taped tearing cotton from a stuffed animal's hat, then shoving it in her child’s mouth and walking away. After several seconds, the nurse says the mother was in distress, asking the staff for help for her child who was choking.
Younginer said her child was admitted about 2 weeks prior because she frequently quits breathing or starts choking. She allegedly told police how she's saved her baby's life by doing CPR for up to 40 minutes to keep her alive.
According to police reports, when Younginer learned she was under arrest, they left her in a room alone for while. During that time, they say she's seen on video laying on the ground and intentionally kicking a chair to look like she fainted. She was treated for medical conditions but later arrested for Unlawful Conduct Toward a Child.
The child is in the care of the Berkeley County Department of Social Services until the investigation is complete.
