Hundreds of people were stuck on the bridge, some for hours, as police officers worked the case of a man ramming his SUV into the bridge walls.
Haley Specter was on her way to a babysitting job when the incident happened, “I was really scared. I’ve heard of people jumping off the bridge before, but I never saw anything like that.”
Many folks took the wait in stride. Wanda Cramer has a chance to be a good Samaritan, “I let this nice lady sit here because they moved everybody back.”
Edith Daniel is the lady she helped. Daniel had just checked out of the hospital at MUSC for a medical procedure. She had lots of praise for Cramer, “She’s a very nice lady. A very kind lady.”
Many of the cars were able to back off the bridge after waiting an hour or so. Eventually officers moved in to take custody of the suspect. As that happened, the crowd of 50 or so people who were still on the bridge clapped and cheered.
