25-year-old Yury Babenko was killed friday night in West Ashley when he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle.
Charleston police say that when officers responded to the area of 1325 Old Towne Road in reference to a report of an Auto- Pedestrian accident, they observed Babenko lying in the roadway with a damaged bicycle nearby.
They say that the initial phase of the investigation revealed that the vehicle involved in this accident had left the scene prior to the officers arrival.
A tentative description and direction of flight was sent to all adjoining jurisdictions. A vehicle matching the description that was sent to all jurisdictions was later spotted and stopped on Folly Road by Charleston Police.
The driver, Steven Keuhner, was charged with Felony DUI.
The investigation is ongoing.
