Original story - Fire burns medical offices on Daniel Island, roof collapses
The roof of a medical office building collapsed as fire tore through the facility on Daniel Island early Tuesday morning.
According to Asst. Chief John Tippett, the call came in at 2:38 a.m. and when the first firefighters arrived the fire had already burned through the roof in the 800 block of Island Park Drive.
It took five engines, three ladder trucks from the city, and one engine from North Charleston a little more than two hours to get the fire under control.
Tippett says, because of the metal roof and sides of the building, firefighters were forced to fight the fire from the outside.
There were no injuries, and the investigation into the cause of the fire is now underway.
