Five different fire departments put out the flames of a James Island home fire Saturday morning.
Neighbors are glad so many firefighters responded to the Clark Sound Circle neighborhood, but some of them are upset at how long it took firetrucks to arrive on scene.
"It probably took [the fire trucks] about 25 minutes to get here," Michael Kourmoulakis said.
James Island Fire Chief Chris Siebolt spoke to News 2 by phone Monday and laid out this timeline:
"The call was dispatched at 9:32, the first engine called en-route at 9:33 and arrived on scene at 9:37", said Siebolt.
Siebolt added that he is following up with the Charleston County Consolidated Dispatch Center (CDC) this morning to see if there were any breakdowns prior to his department receiving the call.
Kourmoulakis lives three houses near the Clark Sound Circle home that burned and watched as two of his neighbors rescued the man who lived inside the burning home.
Rachel Spence also lives close to where the fire happened. Her family heard the fire erupt from their home and quickly rushed over. As she arrived, another onlooker said he had called 911, but her husband called again when they didn't hear any sirens.
News 2 has a call into supervisors at the CDC this morning to check on official times for all of the 911 calls made Saturday morning.
