Pharmacies getting creative to fill the demand for Adderall in the Lowcountry

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Pharmacists in the Lowcountry are working around an Adderall shortage.

They say the drug companies have been having a difficult time keeping the drug in stock. The drug has been in short supply since about March in some areas nationwide.

The shortage was caused by DEA regulations that restricts the amount of the key ingredient that can be produced. The restriction is in place due to the risk for abuse of the drug.

While the drug IS available, it is often not available in the dosage that was prescribed. For example, if a 10 mg dose was prescribed, some pharmacists are cutting the 20 mg pills in two to make two 10 mg pills.
