Smile for a Lifetime Foundation is a charitable, non-profit organization that provides orthodontic care to individuals who may not otherwise have the opportunity to acquire assistance. Now, it's available to Lowcountry kids.
Dr. James Kelley runs an orthodontics practice in Mount Pleasant and Daniel Island. Kelley brought the Smile for a Lifetime Foundation to the Lowcountry and gave the first recipient her braces on Thursday.
"The mission of our foundation is to provide free orthodontics to 10 deserving, under-served individuals each year (roughly $55,000 in free treatment)", says Kelley. "We have a local board of directors that will screen applications and grant the orthodontic scholarships throughout the year, and I will be performing the free treatment."
Lara Brooksbank is the first paitent to receive the scholarship. The process is not easy, and calls for candidates to be preforming at schools, involved in extracurricular activities, and collect several letters of recommendation.
