Employers use it before they make a hire. A spouse can use it to dig up dirt before a divorce. Crooks have been known to use it before committing a crime.

Facebook has 500 million active users. Half of those users log on each day.

Social media experts say certain features can get you into trouble.

Larry Collett, CEO Netgalaxy Studios, said everyone needs to set certain privacy settings. Collett said the best way to set those settings is creating friend groups. Then you can assign friends into those groups that restrict what people can see on your facebook page.

Collett said even if you aren’t using apps to check into places, friends can. Stalkers can use that information to find you and crooks can use it if they want to break into your home.
