The South Carolina Health Cooperative is the state's first health cooperative to create pools for small businesses to obtain discount health insurance.
They are in the process of taking applications from any small business with 2 to 50 employees.
"We are trying to get the word out so that people can take advantage of this create service," says CEO Cooper Littlejohn, who is just 20-years-old.
South Carolina Senators Glenn McConnell and Robert Ford took the podium with Littlejohn in North Charleston on Tuesday to expand awareness about the SCHC.
"This is about moving the state forward with insurance," says McConnell.
The SCHC says it can access discounts to small businesses usually available only to large corporations and provide long-term plans (5 years) that keep costs fixed.
According to SCHC there are more than 80,000 small business in South Carolina and as many as 1 million employees.
