The driver of a Greyhound bus lost his arm after being pinned inside the bus for nearly two hours after a wreck on I-95 in Dorchester County Tuesday night.
Cpl. Paul Brouthers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol says, the bus was carrying 22 passengers as it headed to New York from Orlando just after 6 p.m. The bus slammed into the back of a logging truck at mile marker 83, near St. George.
Troopers shut down I-95 for several hours as emergency crews worked to free the bus driver, and take the 13 injured passengers to two different hospitals. Brouthers said, the driver of the logging truck was not injured.
Medics wanted to send the bus driver to the hospital by helicopter, but the strong winds that moved in Tuesday night made that impossible. Instead, EMS took the driver by ambulance to MUSC.
Highway Patrol opened the interstate just after 11:30 p.m. and Brouthers says the investigation will continue. Troopers did not write any tickets, or file any charges so far.
