Charleston County sheriff's deputies confirmed to News 2 that they are investigating a possible link between a robbery Saturday in West Ashely that led to the arrest of a Citadel quarterback and the terrifying robbery and sexual assault of a couple on James Island.
Sheriff's Maj. John Clark said there are similarities in the robberies.
In both cases, the robbers wore masks and brandished a silver revolver, duct-taped their victims and ransacked homes for electronics.
Citadel quarterback Miguel Starks, former Citadel player Reggie Rice and two College of Charleston students face charges in the Saturday robbery of an assistant Citadel football coach Joshua Harpe.
The robbery of the young James Island couple, who are described as boyfriend and girlfriend, happened February 24.
The male victim is a former Citadel student.
The robbery happened at his home.
The incident report, obtained by News 2, says that around 10 pm there was a knock at their door.
The female victim answered.
It was a young woman claiming her car had broken down and asking to use the phone.
Here's how the incident report describes what happened next:
"Once she turned her back the unidentified female followed, along with two black males dressed in all black, ski masks, gloves and guns. She was unable to describe the guns. She was forced to the ground at gunpoint. She called out to (her boyfriend) and he walked in. She advised they were both placed in duct tape. She stated that the tape was placed on her hands, feet, shoulders and eyes. She stated that she heard male voices disguised as high pitched voices asking for money and credit cards. One subject exclaimed they are from 'Chucktown.' She was kicked several times while on the ground by an unknown party. At one point she was forced onto her knees. One of the males put a gun to her head and advised her to (perform oral sex). The suspect warned if she bit he 'would blow her brains out.' (She) advised this lasted several seconds before she heard the other male walk into the room and advised him to stop. The suspect did."
The victims said the robbers ransacked the home, stole electronics and DVDs and fled.
The young woman found her boyfriend in a closet, duct-taped and his pants pulled down.
The couple did not report the robbery until the next morning.
The young man said they went to the girlfriend's home in Downtown Charleston and fell asleep.
He said they no way to contact police and "were in desperate need of sleep."
