As if the GOP primary campaign for governor couldn't get any more bizarre, Lt. Gov. Andre Bauer on Monday released the results of a polygraph test he says he took.
Bauer said he took the polygraph exam Sunday to refute accusations made against him last week by opponent Nikki Haley.
“I’m not willing to have that kind of false accusation go unchallenged,” Bauer said. “She made a false accusation about me, and I wanted to prove that I was telling the truth.”
In a debate last week, Haley and Bauer sparred over accusations of marital infidelity against her by two Republican activists.
One of them was Larry Marchant, who resigned as a Bauer campaign aide.
Bauer denied that he had anything to do with the accusation, and challenged Haley to take side-by-side lie detector tests to prove who’s telling the truth.
“The people have the right to know who’s telling the truth,” Bauer said. “This is transparency in government.”
Bauer claims he passed the polygraph test, and that the results were independently verified.
