The Mount Pleasant Police Department says it needs residents phone numbers to provide critical information about situations that occur in the town.
Citywatch is the department's automated notification system. The system has been in place since 2002 and has been used for everything from evacuation notification, to solicitation for assistance in the location of a missing child.
The system can make simultaneous calls to households within Mount Pleasant. The Department can record messages about situations to include instructions on what people need to do.
Once an area is selected for calling, the system will automatically telephone all published numbers within the area and deliver the message.
Right now, the department is facing the problem of access to current telephone numbers of the Town’s residents. Since the system relies on the publicly available telephone number databases, private numbers and cellular numbers do not generally receive the important information.
In an effort to improve information dissemination the Mount Pleasant Police Department is requesting those persons with telephone numbers they want included in the Departments database to contact the police department.
If you would like to be notified by the system for emergencies and critical happenings in the area, call Captain Amy McCarthy at 843-884-4176. You can also email her at McCarthy@townofmountpleasant.com or mail your information to 100 Ann Edwards Lane, Mount Pleasant, SC, 29464.
