Police say a Southern California man posed as a U.S. marshal to kidnap a distant cousin's wife and falsely deport her to the Philippines.

Police said Tuesday they arrested 37-year-old Greg Raymond Denny Jr. last month on suspicion of impersonating an officer and kidnapping Cherriebelle Hibbard.

Police allege Denny barged into Hibbard's Hemet home on Jan. 15, handcuffed her, forced her husband to buy her a plane ticket and used a fake badge to put her on a plane to her home country.

Her husband, Craig Hibbard, says the U.S. Marshals Service later told him Denny wasn't an agent.

No motive was released. However, Denny says Craig Hibbard's father told him Cherriebelle was in the country illegally and was having problems at home.

Denny told The Press-Enterprise newspaper that the kidnapping claims were false, but he provided no further details.
