One man is in the Augusta Burn Center after a fire started early this morning at a home in Goose Creek.
Goose Creek Fire Chief Steve Chapman says the call came in around 4:30 a.m. and took several departments an hour to put the fire out.
The Chief says the fire started near the fireplace on the first floor of the two-story home on Edmonton Circle in the Fairfax neighborhood. He says the family burned a wood fire in the fireplace the night before, but allowed it to smolder and burn out before going to bed.
The man and woman were sleeping in the home at the time of the fire as well as a ten year old little girl and a three year old little boy.
Firefighters say the family woke up to the sounds of the fire crackling and popping.
According to a friend of the family, the man noticed a gas can on the back porch and tried to get it away from the house so it wouldn't explode. We're told some gasoline got on his clothing and ignited. The woman put a blanket around him to extinguish the flames.
Crews rushed him to the August Burn Center in Georgia.
Chief Chapman says the home is most likely a total loss.
