"We are not going to target people driving one or two miles over the speed limit," Capt. Chris Williamson said during a media briefing in North Charleston.
South Carolina Highway Patrol Troop 6 announced a crackdown along a dangerous stretch of Interstate 26. They will focus their efforts from mile marker 194 to mile marker 172.
4 troopers will be assigned to the area in unmarked cars and deputies from Dorchester and Berkeley counties will assist.
Highway Patrol will work with the state Department of Transportation to get more rumble strips on the sides of the interstate and remove trees from the median; in an effort to help keep fatigued drivers safe.
Weekend times will be more heavily targeted.
