Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright said two men are dead after a late night shooting, shortly after 10:30pm Wednesday night.
Wright said robbery appears to be the motive that caused the shooting at the Citgo at 1001 North Church Street in Spartanburg County. Wright called the situation a senseless crime that was likely a robbery gone bad.
“When officers got to the scene they found one victim deceased and one was taken to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center“, said Wright in an interview early Thursday morning.
Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger said the victims both worked at the store. He said Gumaro Gonzales Bravo, 35, was pronounced dead at the scene. Clevenger was trying to identify the second clerk who died at the hospital and notify his family Thursday morning.
The manager of the Citgo said he did not witness the crime, but he rushed to the scene to hear the tragic news that two of his employees were dead. News Channel 7 reporter Jonathan Carlson asked what was going through his mind. “I am shocked. This is all pretty shocking. Yea.“, the manager said in an exclusive interview. Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Deputies have not named any suspects in the attempted robbery or shooting.
