It was a once-in-a-lifetime shot that professional basketball players only dream about, and it was made by a Plano, Texas seventh-grader.
Trey Elliot, 13, a Prince of Peace Catholic School student, sank a full-court shot with one second on the game clock heading into the half in the semifinal playoff game against Saint Monica Catholic School on Sunday night.
"All of a sudden, they gave me the ball, the crowd yelled, 'Shoot it,' and I threw it as hard as I could, and it went in," he said.
"My husband and I high-fived like five times," said Trey's mother, Joelene Elliott. "I just couldn't believe it, and then everyone came over to congratulate us."
Trey's coach, Rich Goacher, said he couldn't believe it either.
"I've been coaching for about 10 years and never seen it, at least not firsthand," he said.
A parent captured the buzzer-beater on home video, and Trey and his family have watched it numerous times.
"It just feels great that I actually made it," Trey said.
The shot has the seventh-grader dreaming big.
"I want to be an NBA player when I grow up," he said.
Even if he does make it to the pros, the shot may be highlight of his career.
"He really enjoys basketball, and so it's something he'll never forget," his mother said. "It will probably never happen again."
Despite Trey's full-court sinker, Prince of Peace lost the game to Saint Monica.
Trey said he prefers to remember the shot, not the final score.
