Bauer: I didn't tell anybody that I wouldn't run for Governor

News 2 asked him to confirm that he had been telling lawmakers that, if Gov. Mark Sanford resigned, Bauer would be willing to serve the remainder of Sanford’s term and not run for governor himself.

I just got off the phone with Andre Bauer.

He’s in Charleston.

I asked him to confirm that he had been telling lawmakers that, if Sanford resigned, Bauer would be willing to serve the remainder of Sanford’s term and not run for governor himself.

Andre—“I didn't tell any lawmakers that.” (That he would not run for gov. but just serve out Sanford's term). Some people offered that as a suggestion so I was entertaining that. Yes, I have considered doing that. Somebody else mentioned that."

I told him the governor said resigning would be the easy way out, and would influence the 2010 gubernatorial race.

"All that should not be in his decision making. He needs to decide, can he patch his family life together and can he run the state effectively and get economic development moving forward in South Carolina. If the answer is yes, he needs to get back to work and we need to support him."
