South Carolina’s top prosecutor says he does not think Gov. Mark Sanford should resign after the governor admitted to the world he was having an affair with a South American woman.
Attorney General Henry McMaster, in Myrtle Beach for a fundraiser for Rep. Thad Viers, spoke to News 2 sister station, News13 about the Sanford scandal.
McMaster says he thinks the people of South Carolina should give Sanford and his family the privacy they’ve requested.
“We all know what’s happened,“ said McMaster.
He also does not believe the governor used any state resources to further his romantic pursuits with the woman, who lives in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Several news organizations report a state-issued vehicle left in the parking lot last weekend at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta, where Sanford flew in and out of to go see the woman.
“There’s been no evidence presented to anyone that I know of,“ said McMaster.
“As far as I know, there have been no laws broken, but there are a lot of things that need to happen in this state,“ he said. “We need to get together getting them done.“
