Tuesday, January 20, 2009 is a historic day for America. Barack Obama will be sworn in as the first African-American president of the United States. This will be a memorable day for every American citizen.
There will be an opportunity for Charlestonians to stand side-by-side and listen to the words of our new President, Barack Obama. An admission-free screening of the swearing in of Barack Obama as the United State’s 44th President will be provided as a public service by Comcast Cable, the City of Charleston, and additional support from several private benefactors. The screening on a Jumbotron will begin at aproximately11 a.m. and take place in Marion Square. The program is estimated to last until 1:30 p.m., with Barack Obama taking oath at Noon as specified by the U.S. Constitution.
The public is invited to come and bring lawn chairs and blankets. Since the ground may be damp from the weather, chairs will also be provided. Bring your lunch and have a picnic as we all share this long awaited day.
