A broadcast report says Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson has had a heart transplant.
WBTV in Charlotte reports the 72-year-old Richardson had the surgery yesterday at Carolinas Medical Center. Richardson had been on a heart transplant list since December.
The station says a medical center spokeswoman would not confirm the transplant and said Richardson's name was not in the hospital directory. But Panthers communication director Charlie Dayton told the Charlotte Observer last night that "the process has begun." He would not elaborate.
The television station did not reveal its sources. It reported Richardson had pulled through the surgery and was doing well. The station showed footage of a black SUV speeding from the airport
with "Emergency Transplant Services" on the door.
