The North Charleston Police Department will hold its Gun Buy-back on Saturday, December 12, 2009 from 10 a.m. until noon at two locations.
In an effort to cut down on gun violence in the City of North Charleston, the police department will hold the 2nd annual Gun Buy-back this weekend.
The program is open to North Charleston residents only, and gives people the chance to surrender weapons to authorities with no questions asked.
There are two locations that will be open for the buy-back, from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, December 12th.
While there are no questions about the weapons, there are rules and laws that must be followed. Participants must be 18-year-old, and you must follow state concealed weapon laws when bringing the guns to the buy-back site. Also, the guns must be in working order to receive payment. Gun dealers are not eligible to participate in the program.
Hand-guns and assault weapons will net you a $100 gift card. Shot guns and rifles are worth a $50 gift card.
Last year, residents turned in 245 weapons to police during the gun buy-back. After the weapons are collected they will be processed by the police department before destruction, in accordance with the department’s policies.
