Free dental clinic sees 38% increase over last year. The clinic takes place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at East Cooper Community Outreach in Mount Pleasant.

Several people are spending their Thursday evening in the waiting room at the East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO) in Mount Pleasant. ECCO provides free dental care for 10 people every Tuesday and Thursday night.

Most patients are here for extractions of teeth causing serious pain. The recession has brought many new people to the clinics.

The director of ECCO, Jack Little, says he has seen an increase in patients of about 38% since this time last year. The program is funded by private sources, including major funding from Blue Cross\Blue Shield and Bank of America.
