Lowcountry organizations observe World Aids Day

» 1 Comment | Post a Comment

Local health agencies and churches held an HIV testing and resources day in Marion Square on Tuesday.

The plan was to make people aware of their HIV status and spread awareness in the community.

Organizers hope to make awareness an integral part of daily life in the Lowcountry.

"In South Carolina we are in the top ten, number eight, of all the U.S. states that have the most cases of HIV and AIDS," said Marchelle Eichelberger, of DHEC.

Virginia King of Lowcountry Aids Services tells News 2,"This day is a wonderful day of remembrance, however it is also a day of action. You must take that action and keep it going."

There are HIV testing opportunities throughout the year.

You can contact Lowcountry Aids Services for information.
