An additional $15,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for the death of Deputy Compton. He was shot and killed last month while responding to a burglar alarm in Smoaks. The National Police Defense Foundation added $10,000 and a Colleton county law firm, Hetrich, Harvin and Bonds offered an additional $5,000. Colleton county council offered the initial $10,000 reward for information last month, which brings the total reward to $25,000.
Authorities with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Divsion say they are following 300 leads in the case, and have processed 190 pieces of evidence, including DNA evidence, fingerprints, and foot impressions. Authorities are asking the public to help identify a t-shirt found a half mile from the murder scene on Sunflower Drive. The shirt has "It's nice to meet you. You really seem like an interesting person!" on the front. Authorities say they're not sure if the t-shirt is evidence or not, but they want to know more information about it.
