Dorchester County deputies are searching for an inmate who escaped custody for a second time.

Adam Lee Longa is on the run today after somehow slipping out of handcuffs, a belly chain, and leg shackles. Longa kicked out the rear window, and jumped from a moving patrol car as a deputy drove him back to the St. George jail.

According to the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Department, Longa escaped around 2:40 this morning while returning from a trip to the hospital to treat a cut on his head.

Longa escaped from the Dorchester County Jail in November of 2007 by hiding in a break room and then climbing through air ducts to freedom. Florence deputies caught him about a month later at a hotel while investigating a series of burglaries.

A Dorchester County news release says deputies are focusing their search in an area near the split at Highway 78 and Highway 178.

If you see Longa, call the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Department 843-873-5111.
