It's easy to be overwhelmed by life and the make-up isle. But simple steps can not only make you look better, they can also make you feel better. In this month's beauty basics segment we're going to beauty boot camp to freshen up your look from the outside in and the heaviest thing you'll have to lift is a lipstick tube.
Make-up Artist Andrew Petersen joined me on My News 2 with his Beauty Basics. Tanya Brown of 95SX went through Andrew's Boot Camp and joined us to share her experience.
Here's Andrew's Beauty Bookcamp Breakdown:
It Requires changing 3 beauty routines at least 3 times a week for one month. You will see how the most minimal changes in your beauty routine can really bring out your beauty best and make you a more beautiful you!
Star Pupil who actually did this was Tonya Brown from 95sx. Tonya like many women, has a job that may not necessarily mean she has to get dressed up or put makeup on to go to work everyday. On other hand she wanted tips on how to feel feminine and feel renewed. I Immediately put her on a strict regimen
1. Wear heels to work at least 3 days per week.
2. Wear Mascara at least 3 days per week
3. Wash and exfoliate her face at least 3 times per week at night.
She did it!!! I followed up with her weekly for one month and it paid off and you will hear in Tonya's own words on how doing this really did make a difference and empower her. When you take care of yourself, or as I like to say treat yourself in one area of your life, it is only a matter of time before those good habits affect other parts of your being!!!!!
Andrew's Favorites:
1. Change carbonated drinks for water with fruit. Switch coffee for green tea.
2. Put candles in your bathroom and create and ambiance this makes putting on makeup a ritual of you giving those few minutes to yourself, especially for you busy mother's and housewives. This is YOUR time. My favorite candles are Archipelago Botanicals fittingly called "Charleston" it truly is the essence of Charleston. http://beautyexclusive.stores.yahoo.net/archipelago-botanicals-charleston-glass-jar-candle.html Another choice from the drugstore Candle-lite in Melon. A room spray such as Diptyque Figuier Interior Spray.
3. Nail Polish! Huge difference especially if you do not paint your nails normally. I suggest going for something light with a hint of pink it will make you look polished and look feminine. I love Kaia House formaldehyde formula in in "Miami," or from the drugstore "Confetti" it is light, sparkly, fun, and mistake proof! http://www.abeautifulsecret.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=9305
4. Mascara....This is the most powerful tool in makeup most times. Your eyes are the windows to the soul so take a few seconds to really bring them out. These can be your best features baby. I love Trish McEvoy High Volume Mascara because it comes of in tubes and I adore Cover Girl Lash Blast http://www.covergirl.com/products/collections/blast/?gclid=COzPt6mC_KMCFcdk7AodKH0JHw
5. Lips to me are the one are that I find every woman has different opinions on and each and everyone has their own personal comfort zone. The power of a lipstick can really lift your spirits when you are feeling down, be the finishing touch when you are getting ready for a fabulous night out, or even become your personal signature very much like a fragrance. My favorites are. There are no rules and as an artist I want my clients to be comfortable whether that is lip liner, lipstick, and gloss, or just simply a gloss. I want you to feel like you although sometimes it is fun to take a chance after all it is amazing the way a small tube of color can change a mood and create a different persona. So sometimes go against what you might normally go for live on the edge. My favorites are Trish McEvoys Sheer Baby Pink because of the sunblock. It brightens anyone regardless of age, skin tone, and the texture is ahttp://www.rimmellondon.com/US/products/lips/Lipgloss/Royal+Gloss+Delicious+Lipgloss.aspxmazing. My new favorite drugstore find is Rimmel London Royal Gloss in "Delicious" it is the perfect amount of color for anyone and how could you not love the name
6. The last step and my Favorite shoes, shoes, shoes. Nothing is sexier on a women than a great pair of shoes. They don't have to be high they just have to make you look and feel great. Trust me others around you will notice! I am not an expert on shoes as I am a makeup artist, but the one bit of advice that I can give is don't just buy a pair because they are a good deal. Save your cash and buy the shoes that you adore and love and you will wear forever. Many times shoes may purchase for a date way out last the person you thought was the man of your dreams.
Beauty Boot Camp does require discipline but the payoff far out ways any sacrifice you might make. Life is not a dress rehearsal but it becomes a lot more fun when you can dress yourself up a bit and most importantly embrace the beautiful you!
