Working from home may sound great to you, but startup home entrepreneurs face challenges. Holly Fisher, Account Executive with Step Ahead Inc., joined me to look at what you can do to have a successful home business. Here is her advice:
Establish a home office - create a physical space; treat that space as an office; try to make the space separate from the rest of your home.
Motivation - Create a daily work schedule and stick to it; develop a list of daily tasks/goals you must complete; take breaks as needed to avoid burnout.
Establish boundaries - Close your office door or create a signal to your family that you're working and don't want to be bothered; set specific work hours so friends and family know when you're focused on your work.
Solitude - working from home can get lonely so get out of the office when you can. Meet clients or colleagues at their offices; join a business networking group; work at the coffee shop; embrace social media/online networking.
Leave work at work - make sure to turn work off at the end of your established work door. Try shutting down the computer or shutting the office door.
Holly also said to limit your household tasks during working hours, get child care, and let people know you are really working and not to interrupt you.
