My News 2: Eating for $3 a day

» 0 Comments | Post a Comment

Many families are struggling to put food on the table and many local shelters and food banks have seen more than there fair share of empty shelves this year as the economy takes it's toll.

Some of you may find yourself living on food stamps for the first time, but are they enough to feed you and your family?

One local student set out to see if he could survive on food stamps for just $3 a day. Academic Magnet High School senior Devin Keck joined me on My News 2 to talk about his project, what he ate, and how it affected his health. Click the video link to hear his story.

Only 55 percent of South Carolinians that are eligible for food stamps are currently using them. That leaves close to a $500,000 still left unclaimed. To find out how to qualify, visit the Lowcountry Food Bank’s website: http://www.lowcountryfoodbank.org.

You can also take Devin’s challenge and eat for just $3 a day.
