Record cold possible tonight
Forecast low temperatures for Saturday morning in select communities.
A cold Arctic air mass will continue to settle into the Lowcountry today with afternoon high temperatures struggling into the middle and upper 30s despite full sunshine. North winds between 10 and 20 miles per hour will make it feel much colder, with wind chill values in the upper teens to lower 20s at times.
Clear skies, very dry air, and light winds will create almost perfect radiational cooling conditions tonight with temperatures plummetting into the 20s shortly after sunset.
Low temperatures by Saturday morning will range between 10 and 17 degrees away from the water with 22-27 degree readings at the beaches. The forecast low for CHS is 15, which would break the record of 17 set in 1972.
