A developing storm system will intensify today over the Southern Plains as it moves toward the Mississippi River.

Ice and snow will break out on the north side of the storm’s track with showers and thunderstorms to the south.  Much of the lower Mississippi River Valley and the Deep South will see widespread rain and thunderstorms over the next 24 hours.

By late Tuesday, rain will become widespread across much of the Western Carolinas bringing another does of badly needed drought relief.  The best chance of rain for the Lowcountry will arrive late Tuesday night and through much of Wednesday.

Colder air will return to the Carolinas as the storm departs on Wednesday and into Thursday.
