Wednesday Forecast Discussion
An area of low pressure developing offshore, combined with an area of high pressure off to our north, will continue to create breezy conditions across the Lowcountry. Some low level moisture is bringing a mix of sun and clouds this morning, however, dry air aloft will lead to lots of sunshine this afternoon. Winds will be picking up as we go throughout the day. A coastal flood advisory goes into effect from 2PM to 7PM this evening for Charleston, coastal Colleton and Beaufort counties. Minor flooding may occur in low-lying areas as tides have been running about a foot above average.
The low pressure system off the coast will start to ramp up this afternoon as it starts to move back to the west. We will start to see an increase of cloud cover during the overnight period with a stray shower possible by tomorrow morning. Highs today with sunshine will be in the upper 70’s but with cloud cover tomorrow temperatures will be held down into the lower 70’s. Winds will continue tomorrow between 20 to 30 mph with gusts along the coast to 40mph. The winds will start to die down tomorrow afternoon and evening as low pressure pushes onshore somewhere between Myrtle Beach and the Outer Banks. Dry air will wrap around on the south side of the storm creating a sharp southern boundary of who sees rain tomorrow and who stays dry.
This storm system will weaken as it pushes into central North Carolina on Friday. That will diminish our chances for rain, especially late in the day. By the weekend, dry air will take hold across the Lowcountry providing partly cloudy skies on Saturday with mostly sunny skies expected on Sunday. High temperatures this weekend will be in the low to mid 80’s.
Have a great Wednesday!
