Monday Forecast Discussion
A cloudy start to the work week as we continue to see a stationary boundary parked off the southeast coastline. A slight chance of a shower is possible today, mainly along coastal areas this morning. Cloudy skies will give way to some sunshine as some drier air tries to work in from the west. Highs today will be around 80.
A strong area of high pressure builds into the northeast and will block this boundary from moving over the next couple of days. A strong pressure gradient will set up across the Carolinas tomorrow creating a strong northeasterly breeze. This will cause a moderate risk of rip currents, minor beach erosion and unseasonably cool temperatures. As we head into the end of the week, we will be watching a coastal low pressure system that will develop off the southeast coastline. The exact track and strength will determine the impacts here in the Lowcountry. At this point in time, however, it is too early to tell how things will shape up.
We are also watching an area of disturbed weather near Puerto Rico that is pounding both Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands with torrential rains and gusty winds this morning. This storm may develop into a tropical depression later today and a tropical storm (name would be Kyle) over the next couple of days as it moves off to the north-northwest. At this point in time, it appears this system will stay well of the southeast coast but due to its proximity to the coastline we will monitor this very closely!
Have a great first day of Fall!
