Battery signs two
Battery signs Matt Bobo and Tsuyoshi Yoshitake
Charleston, SC. The Charleston Battery has signed veteran defender Matt Bobo and Japanese midfielder Tsuyoshi Yoshitake for the upcoming USL First Division season; both players sign pending USSF approval. Bobo has spent the last three years with the USL1 Atlanta Silverbacks while Yoshitake comes to the Battery from Japanese Club, Tokyo Verdy 1969. Both players featured for the Charleston Battery during the recent Carolina Challenge Cup MLS games.

“Both players will add experience to our roster as we look ahead to the start of the season. Matt has been a solid defender in our league for a long time now and we are excited to have him. Yoshi will bring an attacking flair and some excitement to our wings and also has some crafty dribbling ability that should cause some problems for opposing teams.”
Veteran defender Matt Bobo comes to the Battery after spending the last three seasons with the Atlanta Silverbacks. A native of Des Moines, IA, Bobo 6-1, 180 lbs., 31 yrs., played a total of 79 games for the Silverbacks recording 2 goals and 2 assists.
Prior to Atlanta Bobo also had spells with the Richmond Kickers and the Milwaukee Wave United, where he was a member of the championship winning team in 2002. Before turning pro Bobo attended Eastern Illinois University and the University of Wisconsin Green Bay. Bobo also won consecutive PDL championships with the Chicago Sockers.
A native of Mie Prefecture, Japan, Tsuyoshi Yoshitake comes to the Charleston Battery from Japanese Club Tokyo Verdy 1969 (J1) where he has spent the past two seasons.
Prior to joining Tokyo Verdy 1969, Yoshitake, 5-8, 162 lbs., 27 yrs., played for Yokohama FC from 2000 – 2006 and won promotion with them to the J1 League in 2006. Yoshitake’s career J-League totals include 150 games played with 15 goals and 10 assists.
Charleston Battery pre-season schedule
The Charleston Battery has set the remainder of its pre-season schedule as it continues to prepare for its first league match in Vancouver, BC versus the defending champion Whitecaps on Saturday, April 11 (Sports Radio 1450 AM).
The Battery will scrimmage Coastal Carolina University on Wednesday, March 25 at 6 PM, the following Tuesday, March 31, Charleston plays the USL2 Charlotte Eagles at 2 PM followed by a match versus the USL2 Wilmington Hammerheads on Saturday, April 4 at 3 PM.
All three matches will be played at Blackbaud Stadium, Daniel Island and are open to the public with no charge for admission.

2009 Home Opener April 18 vs Montreal Impact
The Charleston Battery’s 2009 Home Opener is set for Saturday, April 18 versus the Montreal Impact at Blackbaud Stadium (7:30 PM, $10 - $18, (843) 971-GOAL http://www.charlestonbattery.com). Everyone in attendance will receive a free commemorative schedule cup courtesy of Horne Guest Insurance plus there will be a spectacular season opening fireworks display immediately following the game.
