NFL-FINAL SCORES
Colts slip past Chargers…Titans knocked off…Super Bowl
champs impressive again

UNDATED (AP) - Once-mighty Indianapolis continues its climb back
to respectability. Adam Vinatieri booted a 51-yard field goal as
time expired to give the Colts a 23-20 win over San Diego. The
Colts’ fourth straight win boosts them to 7-and-4 and keeps them in
the thick of the AFC wild card race. The 4-and-7 Chargers remain
two games back of Denver in the AFC West race with little or no
hope of a wild-card berth.

    Elsewhere in Week 12:
    - The Tennessee Titans are no longer unbeaten. Brett Favre and
the New York Jets made sure of that with a 34-13 win in Nashville.
Favre threw two touchdown passes and Leon Washington ran for two
scores as the Jets won their fifth straight. The loss snapped a
13-game regular-season winning streak by the NFL’s last undefeated
team. The win also pulls the Jets, who are 8-and-3, within two
games of the Titans, who are 10-and-1, in the race for AFC
home-field advantage through the playoffs.
Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher calls his team’s streak “a great
run” but emphasizes they’ve got to get back to work quickly.
Tennessee has a road date at winless Detroit on Thanksgiving.

    - The New York Giants returned to the site of last February’s
stunning Super Bowl triumph over New England and were once again
impressive on the road. The Giants improved their record to
10-and-1, good for a three-game lead in the NFC East, by beating
Arizona 37-29. That ends the Cardinals’ seven-game home win streak.
Eli Manning tossed three TD passes. Kurt Warner was 32-of-52 for
351 yards and a touchdown in defeat. But he was intercepted once
and also fumbled.

    - New England won a shootout with Miami, 48-28, as Matt Cassel
(KAS’-uhl) threw for 415 yards. Three of the scoring passes were
caught by Randy Moss. The win keeps the Patriots, who are 7-and-4,
a game behind the AFC East-leading New York Jets. The win avenges
an upset loss to Miami in September. The loss snaps a four-game
winning streak for the Dolphins, who are now 6-and-5.

    - As Tennessee saw its unbeaten streak snapped, Detroit was able
to stay winless on the 2008 season. The Lions were stopped by Tampa
Bay 38-20, despite the fact the Lions led by as many as 17 points
at one time. From there, the Buccaneers scored five unanswered
touchdowns.
Tampa Bay, with a record now of 8-and-3, has won three straight
while the Lions drop to 0-and-11.

    - A week after not knowing that NFL games could end in a tie,
Donovan McNabb has been benched. The veteran Philadelphia
quarterback, who was intercepted three times last week by
Cincinnati, was sat down by coach Andy Reid after going 8-for-18
for 59 yards with two interceptions and a fumble in the first half
against Baltimore. The Ravens won 36-7, upping their record to
7-and-4. The Eagles drop to 5-and-5. Ed Reed returned two
interceptions for a total of 151 yards, including one for an NFL
record 108 yards.

    - Jim Zorn is a winner in his return to Seattle. The Washington
Redskins rookie head coach enjoyed a 20-17 win over Seattle to stay
three games back of the NFC East-leading Giants. Clinton Portis,
who was questionable with a sprained knee, shook off the injury and
ran for 143 yards on 29 carries.

    - Oakland surprised Denver 31-10 to snap a four-game losing
streak. The Raiders, who lost to Denver 21-14 at home in the
season-opener, turned the tables with the help of Ashley Lelie
(leh-LEE’). The former Broncos receiver caught a TD pass and set up
another with a 51-yard reception. Denver’s two-game losing streak
is over but the Broncos remain atop the weak AFC West with a
6-and-5 mark.

    - Atlanta beat Carolina 45-28 to move within one game of the NFC
South-leading Panthers. Michael Turner scored four TDs. Falcons
rookie receiver Harry Douglas scored on a 7-yard end around, caught
a 69-yard pass that set up another TD and finished off the Panthers
with a 61-yard punt return.

    - Sage Rosenfels passed for 275 yards and a touchdown as the
visiting Houston Texans beat the Browns in Cleveland, 16-6. The win
snapped an eight-game road losing streak for the Texans. Each team
is now 4-and-7. Browns quarterback Brady Quinn was benched after
tossing two interceptions and going 8 for 18 for just 94 yards.

    - The Chicago Bears regrouped after a 37-3 loss to Green Bay in
a key NFC North game last week with a 27-3 win today over the Rams
in St. Louis. The game was all but over at the half, with the Bears
in front 24-3.
Rams quarterback Marc Bulger left the game with a concussion.

    - Adrian Peterson ran for 80 yards and a touchdown and the
Minnesota Vikings beat Jacksonville 30-12. With their second road
win of the season, the Vikings, who are 6-and-5, kept pace with
Chicago in the NFC North. The 4-and-7 Jaguars fell to 1-5 at home,
and faded even further back in the AFC playoff race. The Minnesota
defense was all over the Jags who had three fumbles, three sacks,
numerous holding calls and two interceptions.

    - Terrell Owens had 213 yards in receiving as the Dallas Cowboys
kept alive their playoff hopes with a 35-22 win over San Francisco.
Owens’ total was the second-most of his career, behind only the 283
yards he had in a 2000 game in which he caught an NFL-record 20
passes.
The Cowboys have consecutive victories for the first time since
their 3-and-0 start and are now 7-and-4. They face Seattle at Texas
Stadium on Thanksgiving Day. The 49ers fall to 3-and-8.

    - The Buffalo Bills are back in the win column. Trent Edwards
threw for two scores and ran for two, as the Bills beat the Chiefs,
in Kansas City, 54-31. The Bills pounced on five Kansas City
turnovers and came within four points of matching their 42-year-old
record for most points in a game. Buffalo has a record now of
6-and-5.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL-BCS
    Texas moves up

NEW YORK (AP) - The initial news from the BCS standings looked
good for Texas. The long-range forecast, however, favors Oklahoma.
The Longhorns stayed ahead of the Sooners on Sunday and moved
into the coveted second spot in the BCS standings, thanks to a
better computer rating.
Alabama remained on top of the standings. The Crimson Tide are a
comfortable No. 1 in both the USA Today coaches’ poll and Harris
poll, and tops according to the computers.
Texas is close behind Oklahoma in both polls, but has the
second-best computer rating. The Longhorns’ BCS average is .9209.
