Braves Slam Past Riverdogs

Rome, GA –The Rome Braves defeated the Charleston Riverdogs 7-4 in front of 1,957 fans at State Mutual Stadium Sunday afternoon.  Rome gets back to the .500 mark with the win.

The Braves scored the first run of the game in the third inning when Jesus Sucre scored from third on a wild pitch. In the top of the fifth the Riverdogs took the lead 2-1 on a two run homer by Mike Lyon. In the bottom of the inning Rome regained the lead 5-2 on a Luis Sumoza grand slam over the left field wall.

Rome added two insurance runs in the sixth highlighted by a Ryan Barba RBI single. Charleston added two runs in the seventh on an RBI double by Chase Weems and an RBI single by Dan Brewer, but it was not enough as the Braves bullpen was able to keep the 7-4 lead.

Richard Sullivan (3-0) gets the win for the Braves while Brett Marshall (0-1) was the losing pitcher for Charleston. Benino Pruneda recorded his third save of the season.
