COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina got to “Remember The
Titans” at practice Wednesday.
The Gamecocks got a visit from former football coach Herman
Boone and ex-South Carolina quarterback Ron “Sunshine” Bass, who
played for Boone at T.C. Williams High in Alexandria, Va. The story
of Boone leading the newly integrated school to a state title in
1971 inspired the hit movie.
Bass was with the Gamecocks in 1973-74 and 1976-77.
Boone had a speaking engagement at the university and South
Carolina coach Steve Spurrier asked if he’d talk to the team.
Boone reminded the Gamecocks to persevere despite their recent
tough stretch. South Carolina has lost four of five games since
starting the season 5-1. After this Saturday’s bye week, the
Gamecocks close the season against rival Clemson.
