COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Tina Charles bounced back from two
straight subpar games with 21 points and No. 1 Connecticut opened
11-0 for the third consecutive season with a 77-48 victory over
South Carolina on Sunday.
    Charles, the Huskies’ standout center, totaled just 17 points in
her previous two games. She broke out big against the Gamecocks,
registering a double-double in the first half to lead Connecticut.
    Charles finished with 14 boards, the third time this season
she’s had double figures in points and rebounds.
    Maya Moore added 15 points and Renee Montgomery 13 for UConn.
    South Carolina (6-5) lost its 21st straight game against ranked
opponents.
    Samone Kennedy and Lakeisha Sutton led the Gamecocks with 11
points each.
