CSU Drops Contest to Flames

LYNCHBURG, VA- The Lady Buccaneers looked to get back in the win column this afternoon in their game against the Lady Flames of Liberty University at the Vines Center, but fell short by a final score of 51-76. The loss moves the Bus to 7-11 on the season and 1-4 in league play, while the Lady Flames continue their undefeated streak in conference play.

The Lady Buccaneers shot .333 on 51 attempts from the field, but were 7-7 from the line, their best showing from the strip so far this season. The Flames were quick to take control on their home court with a layup from Megan Frazee just seconds into the game, followed by a second layup off a Buccaneers turnover, to give the Flames a 4-0 lead. Sophomore guard Kelsey Wasmer would hit a shot from behind the arc to cut the Flames’ lead to one, which would be the closest the Bucs would come to catching the Flames. The Bucs’ would struggle the length of the game to keep up with the pace of the Flames, falling behind by as much as 19 points with about two minutes left in the first half. The Bucs would cut the lead to 16 on two made free-throws by senior guard Pam Tolbert to enter halftime.

Sophomore forward Lydia Johnson would be the first to put the Bucs’ on the board in the second half. The Bucs would find themselves struggling to find the basket in the second half, going several minutes in a row without a basket. Liberty would continue to shoot from the field hitting a total of .552 of their 58 attempts and .421 from long range. The Bucs were lead in scoring by senior guard Pam Tolbert who pulled in 12 points, while sophomores Kelsey Wasmer and Katie Tull pulled in another 9 each. Fellow guard Kiki Rutledge pulled in 7 points while Ali Schwagmeyer pulled in a team- leading 5 rebounds and 5 points. The Flames saw 3 players score in double digits with Megan Frazee leading the game with 20 points.

The Lady Buccaneers continue their road trip to conference play on Monday night against Radford at 7 p.m.
