South Carolina officials expect to release the state’s unemployment numbers for April, and if they rise any higher, it will break a 26-year-old record.

Employers would get tax credits of up to $2,400 for hiring and keeping South Carolina’s jobless on their payrolls under a bill that’s won initial approval.
