Medical:Treating canine cancer
Melanoma can occur in animals and accounts for 7 percent of malignant tumors in dogs.
The median survival time for dogs with advanced oral melanoma is less than 5 months.
A new animal vaccine incorporates human DNA to fight oral melanoma in dogs.
By studying melanoma treatments in animals, scientists may one day gain a better understanding of cancer in people and come up with better ways to detect or treat human cancers.

Researchers are examining whether laser beams stimulate blood flow to the scalp of chemotherapy patients. Developers say the extra blood flow increases cell metabolism and enables damaged blood vessels and cells in the hair follicles to regenerate. The healthier hair follicle should then be able to support new hair growth.

70 percent of lung cancer patients aren’t diagnosed until the disease has spread.
Only 15 percent of patients are still alive five years after diagnosis.
Researchers are testing a vaccine, called Lucanix™, to see if it can prevent or delay recurrence of lung cancer in patients with advanced disease.
